Tinos villages

row 1
The village of Pyrgos, the hometown of sculptor Yannoulis Chalepas and home to the Museum of Marble Arts, is one you should definitely visit. Located where a Venetian castle (pyrgos) used to stand, this village is one of the largest and most popular in Tinos.

Falatados dates back to the 14th century. There are beautiful little shops next to the amazing marble church of Agios Ioannis, where you can try amazing delicacies; when you get extra hungry, visit the tavernas, to try delicious grilled dishes and interesting appetizers. Falatados also features a Folklore Collection and Art Gallery museum.

If you’re looking for something more secluded, Volax may be your right fit. The village is small, almost hidden between the giant granite boulders surrounding it, giving the whole landscape a lunar appearance! There are tavernas, a folklore museum, a tiny stone open-air theater, and you can also find delicious local products: herbs, fruit, honey, capers and wine.

Not far from Volax lies the picturesque village of Agapi, in the shape of an amphitheater. The architecture is beautifully traditional, and you can wander around the pretty houses with lintels above their doors and windows.

There are a lot more villages in Tinos: Komi, with the beautiful square, Arnados with the breathtaking view over the Kechrovouni mountain, Isternia with the marble details on the houses and Steni at the foot of the highest mountain of the island, Tsiknias.

We suggest that you try to visit as many villages as you can to get a better grasp of this island's magnificence.
For those that regard experiencing local cuisine as a priority during their travels, visiting Tinos around the 15th of August could be worth the crowds. The Pan-Hellenic festivities in honor of the Virgin Mary are accompanied by many festivals, like the ones at Koumaros and Tripotamos, including gastronomic feasts! You can taste local raki, artichokes, olives, fruits, and vegetables from villages like Kalloni and others, and try amazing desserts in the festival of honey in Kampos
